When their relationship starts having problems, Grace does the only thing she can thing of: she breaks up with Kyle. Neither of them agree with the solution, but Grace can see no other solution and Kyle won’t try to convince her to stay with him. They get enough of that type of behavior from their parents.
While Grace and Kyle are separately learning to stand on their own two feet, dealing with parents refusing to accept and respect their boundaries, and learning about themselves, they begin to grow from teenagers into adults.
Then their lives intersect again, but is it too late as Kyle witnesses somebody asking Grace out? When he overhears something concerning Grace, he has two options: act or do nothing. What will he do? Will Grace and Kyle ever get back together or are they high school sweethearts doomed to break up during college?
The Wallflower and the Jock is not a standalone. It’s best read after The Bookworm Next Door (Grace and Kyle are a secondary storyline), Near the Finish Line (Prom and Graduation), and The Summer After Graduation.
