Abby Wright's debut, Spiralbound, is cute and that's absolutely a wonderful thing.

In a genre filled with romances (my own included), this book relies on more than romance tropes to tell a story. This book is about the friendship between an inspiring author and her best friend and about Lauren's characters.

When Andrea get pulled into Lauren's story, and one of Lauren's characters gets pulled into Andrea's place, they have to work together to figure out how to get everyone back to their rightful places.

This story doesn't rely on the standard tropes to solve the problem.  Everyone has their flaws and it's pointed out.  Andrea acknowledges that Lauren has weak areas in her writing. Lauren accepts that she can't fix things by herself. Even Lauren's characters aren't a golden trio where everything goes smoothly for them.

I had trouble putting it down and ended up reading the book in two days. (Only because I had to eat, sleep, and get some work done.)
